Is "Half-Life 3" really being done? More leaks made public: not a complete new VR game
Valve is reportedly working on a non-VR Half-Life game, code-named "HLX", according to Tyler McVicker, a well-known game leaker, who said the game "looks like a complete non-VR Half-Life game".
Mr. McVicker said the news came from Valve's recently updated data mining information. "HLX is a confusing story," he explained. "It seems implausible that HLX appears to be a full non-VR Half-Life game, but I wanted to make sure it was real before I made this information public."
A voice actor accidentally leaked some information, and now we know that Valve used the internal code name "White Mesa" when casting for this game. McVicker pointed out that Valve is known for using random code names, such as "Hot Dog" in "Survival Road VR" and "Survival Road 3", and "Jamiroquai" in "Half-Life: Alex". So the "White Sands" code name has nothing to do with the game content.
Through data mining, McVicker learned something about the project. He found that players would wear HEV suits and travel to a world beyond Earth, where there are a variety of creatures, including workers, delivery birds, pentagons, small drones, and some extraterrestrial creatures such as gorillas, jellyfish, and divers.
McVicker believes that the content may have been removed from Half-Life: Alex, but "they continue to be developed in some form based on the latest updates to the Valve Source 2 engine project".
Asked if he thought it was Half-Life 3, Mr. McVicker replied: "Yes. I think it's a non-VR Half-Life game where the player takes on the role of a character wearing HEV armor in V Club's game, which has been in development since Half-Life: Alex."
But Mr. McVicker also said he could not be certain that it was "Half-Life 3," and that the voice actor who leaked the news had removed references to "code name: White Sands" from his profile page.
